Many readers have written asking why John O’Groats suddenly closed on August 24. I finally got in touch with owner Paul Tyler about what led to the closure.
“I can sum up the reasons for our closure with two words—too big,” says Paul, who explained that Encino was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full-service bar, banquet room and outdoor patio, while the original Pico location is open for breakfast and lunch only.
“While we had hundreds of wonderful and loyal customers in Encino, we could no longer justify operating within the margins given the size of the restaurant,” says Paul. "We sincerely miss our customers, employees and the Encino community, who so graciously embraced us during our time on Ventura Boulevard.” Paul adds that he is thankful to the many customers making the trip to the Westside to dine on some favorite dishes.
John O’Groats opened on Pico Boulevard by Paul’s parents, Angelica and Robert Jacoby, more than 30 years ago. Under Paul’s helm, it is still going strong, so if you’re craving those homemade biscuits and jam, pancakes and Benedicts, no worries—you know where to get them. 10516 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, 310-204-0692
