Now celebrating their 30th anniversary, Westmark School is a CAIS/WASC-accredited, college-preparatory school for children in grades 2–12 with dyslexia, language processing issues and other language-based learning differences. Westmark provides these students with the skills and tools to pursue academic success. Using state-of-the-art technology—including a one-to-one iPad program—and low student-teacher ratios, Westmark’s faculty provide individualized instruction, promoting the growth and development of each student as they learn to fulfill their potential and become lifelong learners.
Westmark School features a new athletic field; highly competitive sports teams; a small sound stage and production studio; vibrant music, performing, visual and digital arts programs; an advanced experiential learning program highlighted by engaging outdoor educational trips; an integrated service learning program; student leadership opportunities; and countless enrichment programs.
What would you like kids and parents to know about your school?
“Westmark values the importance of building on each child’s pillars of strength in areas including music, art, drama, athletics and community service to create successful communicators, self-directed learners and critical thinkers.”
What benefits do children gain from the services your school provides?
“Students and families often arrive at Westmark feeling defeated and/or incapable. Our pedagogy includes research–based curriculum and teaching methodologies implemented by highly-trained, experienced teachers who differentiate instruction according to each student’s unique learning profile. Students gain confidence, discover their passions and affinities, and learn not only to feel good about school again but how to develop compensatory strategies, overcome adversity and believe in their ability to succeed.”
What sets your school apart from the rest?
“Westmark’s whole-child approach and philosophy allows for instruction and experiences both inside and outside the classroom, with a full array of extracurricular activities and programs. Our campus and facilities foster a traditional school environment.”
Tell us about your alumni.
“One member of our 2013 class of graduating seniors was signed to a record label to pursue his performing dreams. Another enrolled in a two-year college and is pursuing his lifelong dream of being a firefighter. All of the remaining graduates went to four-year colleges, earning a collective $1.38 million dollars in merit–based scholarships. We are proud to keep in touch with all our alumni to find out the great mark they are making in their post-Westmark lives.”
