Outside of scenes from “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” it’s getting increasingly difficult to find a Tiki bar these days, which is such a shame since flying to Polynesia or Hawaii for your Mai Tai fix is a tad harder on the wallet.
Luckily, one of the last great Tiki bars happens to be in North Hollywood, and on any given night it’s open until 2 am.
Still a beloved dive bar with blowfish lamps, bartenders clad in Hawaiian shirts, and cocktails served in totem pole glasses, Tiki No’s cocktail program was recently revamped by former Roger Room bartenders Damian Windsor and Jason Bran. Yes, you can still get your Blue Hawaiian and the community Scorpion Bowl, but a slew of libations have been amplified to align with the hand-crafted cocktail landscape.
Our favorite among the new menu of 13 cocktails? The coconut mojito—rum and coconut water spiked with muddled mint leaves and lime. There’s also the rum-based “Chief Lapu Lapu” with hints of passion fruit and orange juice, while the “Jungle Bird” is concocted with campari. The “Zombie” mixes rum and red grapefruit juice, and the “Happy Buddha” comes served in a—you guessed it—a ceramic Buddha.
Adding to the revamp, there’s now slushy pina coladas served from a dispenser, and last week the bar featured local brewery, Golden Road, on tap.
We never needed much of an excuse to get tropical with our cocktails, but Tiki No’s menu revamp has given us a whole other reason to sample the whole lot.
Tiki No, 4657 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood. (818) 766-0116.

Food is pretty darn good, too.
