Now open: Comoncy, from the Coral Tree/Red Room/Baltaire team, quietly opened the doors of its third location last week on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, where it replaced Charlie's Pantry. Open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m daily, this fast-casual spot offers various freshly brewed coffee and espresso beverages and a menu of New American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Comoncy’s chef, Joseph Gillard, procures local ingredients with a healthy bent to create such offerings as: Morning Time Muesli with chia seeds, quinoa burgers, organic salmon, paninis, soup, salads and a variety of egg dishes. 12265 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, 323-391-2096.
Just spotted: Part of the former Raphael in Studio City is being reinvented into a Mexican 'gastropub' called Cocina Condesa. According to general manager JP Vega, the menu (currently being developed) will feature "uniquely created and plated Mexican street fare". Bar manager/mixologist Gilbert Marquez (who has created drinks all over town, including Mercado) says he will pair dishes with original cocktails recipes inspired by the fresh juices of Mexico with a focus on mescal, tequila and agave. Look for more news here in The Sauce regarding an opening date and further details in a few weeks.
