With the temperature dipping, Soup Goddess is starting to heat up. The new family-run restaurant, located on the bustling Burbank/Toluca Lake border, specializes in flavorful vegan soups, rotating between more than a dozen varieties.
I enjoyed samples of hearty red lentil and chunky Cali-Flower seasoned with bay leaf and thyme. For an entrée I settled on T-Basil, a zesty tomato soup enriched with coconut cream and coconut oil. The soups are distinctly flavorful—with full disclosure. For most varieties, Soup Goddess lists ingredients on its Soups webpage.
Soup Goddess, owned by a mother/daughter pair, started by serving soup at area farmers markets and then debuted their Burbank shop. Soup is part of their flavorful vegan ethos that extends to sandwiches, salads, burritos and “bomb randos”—seemingly random dishes like Nacho Daddy Chips and Avo-Schmear that somehow fit.
The space features an open kitchen and walls lined with photos of celebrities. Considering Soup Goddess has just six stools at a wood counter, most people grab their eco-friendly containers and Mason jars to go.
Another reason to go: the eatery has a Bowl for a Bowl program in which it partners with The Midnight Mission in L.A. For every bowl sold, Soup Goddess brings a donated bowl to the shelter one Sunday a month.
