SomiSomi, an Instagram-friendly concept that serves soft-serve ice cream in fish-shaped waffle cones, has been a big hit in Koreatown. Now they’ve arrived in the Valley with a branch in Northridge Fashion Center mall,
Taiyaki soft-serve, known as “ah-boong” in Korea, comes in fish-shaped waffle cones called “boong-uh-bbang.” Each cone is ironed to order and combines great inner chew with a crispy coat. Fill your cone with a choice of soft-serve for $5.95. Select between beautifully bitter matcha, earthy ube (purple yam), creamy milk and nutty black sesame.
They also rotate swirl combinations each week. To add another dimension, SomiSomi has the option to line your cone with a choice of three fillings: sweet red bean, custard or vanilla.
Jigeon Kim, the founder of Sul & Beans—a popular bingsoo (Korean shaved ice) and mochi toast cafe in K-Town, partnered on SomiSomi. If anything, SomiSomi has been an even bigger hit, with additional locations from Arcadia to San Diego. The Northridge branch resides on a second floor next to the food court. Grab a table or take your fish for a walk.
