Sierra Canyon School

Sierra Canyon School is an independent, nondenominational, coeducational, college preparatory school enrolling more than 900 students in early kindergarten through 12th grade. Founded in 1978, the school features two campuses and offers an empowering environment where students realize their greatest intellectual, creative, ethical and physical promise. Sierra Canyon is highly diverse, with more than 50 international students; the school’s families reside in more than 75 zip codes.

How does your school make our community a better place?

“We teach students to value the dignity and diversity of all individuals, and we encourage them to make a difference in the world around them. Students at all grade levels participate in service learning events coordinated through the school. They are also encouraged to give to the greater community as individuals by participating in community service activities on a regular basis.”

How do you prepare students for the future?

“Sierra Canyon students are extremely well-prepared for college. In addition to a strong college preparatory program, Sierra Canyon has two full-time college counselors who guide families through the college research and application process. Our students are admitted to the top colleges and universities in the country.”

How does your school emphasize experiential learning?

“On the Lower Campus, students annually explore one of four rotating interdisciplinary themes: The Olympics, Americana, Once Upon a Time, and Planet Earth. They meet in multi-age groups to explore the topic and prepare for an all-school fair that celebrates their learning. On the Upper Campus, middle and high school students participate in Peak Week, when they pursue one of many activities, trips or programs that the faculty create which provide for a unique learning opportunity beyond their classes.”
