Shawarma Express & Grill opened to start September, replacing JoJo’s Mediterranean Grill, which didn’t last long alongside Tiki Fish and Wanderlust Creamery. Tony, the owner, was guarded about details but did reveal that he already runs similar restaurants in Westwood and Hollywood.
The restaurant features orange and green walls, an open kitchen with salad bar, and casual seating. The overhead menu reliably dispenses two types of spit-shaved meat—chicken or beef and lamb—with plans to roll out rarely seen goose and turkey shawarma. In the meantime, he’s grilling goose kebab, which is available intermittently. (Call to be sure it’s available.)
Shawarma, falafel or kebabs are all available in plates, laffa wraps, baguettes or pita sandwiches. Sides include hummus, baba ghanouj, tabbouli, dolma, fries or garlic fries.
