Knitting Factory Entertainment, a company that runs music venues in multiple cities and The Federal Bar in North Hollywood and Long Beach, teamed with Joe Barker and PJ Brill, co-founders of four Big Wangs sports bars and two Tipsy Cow gastropubs, on El Tejano. This Tex-Mex restaurant and bar debuts July 26 in the former NoHo Arts District home to Bow & Truss.
Knitting Factory Entertainment partner Joe says, “We’re looking forward to bringing a new concept to the neighborhood that people may not have even known they wanted, but after one visit they’ll wonder how they ever did without it.”
The design features brick walls, exposed wood rafters, colorful Day of the Dead style skulls and multiple shoutouts to Texas. One wall sports an outline of Texas with lettering that reads, "Deep in the Heart Of." A large shaded patio hosts communal wood picnic tables in the colors of the Texas flag: red, white and blue, along with a painted Lone Star flag.
A sprawling menu includes Tex-Mex classics like Frito pie, queso, chili and, of course, plenty of tacos. Craft beer, specialty cocktails and a sizable selection of tequilas and mezcals will complement culinary efforts.
