To end September, Tarzana’s Peasant Wine Bistro relaunched with a new chef and menu. Owners Christine Tran and Greg Woodbury hired Juan Gallegos, who trained at Everson Royce Bar with Matt Molina, a 2012 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef Pacific. His mentor imparted a belief in seasonal, market-driven ingredients, which are now in effect at Peasant Wine Bistro—starting with a fall menu.
The dinner-only restaurant touts a new roster of small plates and entrees. Early highlights include portobello mushroom toast with red onions and chimichurri on grilled sourdough; fall harvest salad with butternut squash, arugula, walnuts, dried cranberries and maple vinaigrette; and chipotle shrimp orzo with Parmesan cheese and asparagus. People craving comfort will find dishes like a signature burger and a pair of pizzas. As always, Peasant spotlights a rotating selection of small production wines.
Other new offerings include a happy hour Tuesday through Saturday nights, 5 to 7 p.m., featuring glasses of wine and small bites that cost either $5 or $7. Vinyl Night runs every Tuesday, with happy hour extending all night and the chance for music lovers to play deep cuts from their home collections. Holidays bring a Blues Brunch, starting in earnest with Thanksgiving.
