Bratwurst: His little brother
If there's ever the perfect time for a good bratwurst joke, it's October … because it's time for Oktoberfest! The Sauce almost forgot because it's been so summer-hot. While you're busy working on your Halloween costume for the end of the month, don't forget there are a few days left to take advantage of this traditional German folk festival.
Oktoberfest is a 16-day extravaganza of food and fun held annually in Munich, Germany since 1810. It's a little harder to find Oktoberfest in the Valley, but Sherman Oaks' Brats Brothers German Restaurant—where it's "Oktoberfest Year-Round"—will offer you a free giant pretzel if you wear something German to the restaurant. There are also a few special beers and ales on the menu for Oktoberfest. (As always, kids eat free on Tuesdays with the purchase of an adult meal or beer).
During a recent lunchtime visit, The Sauce found that the parameters for German attire are pretty flexible. Our server even confirmed you get a pretzel if you bring your German shepherd (we assume a dachshund would also get you on the list—they also make great Halloweiners). Try it—what's the wurst that could happen?
