“Nata” is not just a name—it’s a very special Portuguese pastry.

Is she a chef or a working girl? We’re not quite sure what to think about this new-ish sign monitor spotted on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, but we’re happy that following her lead took The Sauce not to a new restaurant called Eat (that name has already been taken by a popular breakfast-lunch haunt in NoHo) but to Natas Café and Restaurant, serving Portuguese specialties for years.
A “nata” is a lovely little custard cup in crispy pastry that they'll warm up for you if you want one. They're small, but a fabulous way to spend $2.50. Don’t take my word for it—just ask your friendly sidewalk hostess. Besides sweets, Natas also offers lunch and dinner menus and indoor/outdoor seating.
