Jennine Lush, manager of The Six New American restaurant (nestled into the Coldwater Curve shops on the south side of Ventura Boulevard), says it’s just “one of those things people have to know about.”
There’s no big promotion, no shout-out to the uninitiated when they walk in the door. But if you know about it and ask for it, Jennine promises you’ll get it: 25% off your tab after 6 p.m on Mondays only. This is welcome news for those who usually skedaddle after happy hour (here, 3 to 6 p.m.) before the lights go down and prices go up. At least on Mondays food and beverages at The Six are cheaper when the sun goes down. As seems to be the trend at many Ventura Boulevard gastropubs, closing time is listed on the website as ?
Jennine says the discount has been in place for about 2-1/2 years, and “honestly it’s brought in a lot more business” on a traditionally slow night for dining. (As you have probably noticed, many restaurants just bag it and stay closed on Mondays.) Lower prices may entice families to bring the kids to sample fare that mixes sophisticated tidbits like crispy Brussels sprouts or Prince Edward mussels with coconut green curry, spinach and tomato with kid-friendly offerings including turkey Sloppy Joe sliders, mac ‘n’ cheese fritters and pizzas.
The discount fun doesn’t stop on Mondays. If you prefer drinking to dining, try wine Wednesdays, when the restaurant offers half off selected bottles of wine. Family Monday discounts are honored at The Six’s three locations: Studio City, West LA and Calabasas. According to The Six website, Calabasas has no wine Wednesdays, just regular old Wednesdays.
