Locals who enjoy dinner at Mizlala will be thrilled to know the modern Mediterranean eatery is now open for lunch. Danny Elmaleh and wife Justine just launched a new all-day menu. Favorite dishes like hummus and kebabs are on the dayside menu but also come in “shared plates” and larger sizes. As always, nothing on the menu tops $18, and an automatic 14% tip is added to each bill.
Mizlala capitalizes on its creamy, standout hummus by debuting a new version. This one comes topped with sliced avocado, salty crumbled feta, a tangy dollop of Greek yogurt and the Middle Eastern spice za’atar. Still on the menu: hummus variations with blistered shishito peppers, fried artichokes and chimichurri, and a more basic “masabacha” style.
The couple has added an entire menu section of laffa wraps that star their supple, house-baked, Israeli-style flatbread. Laffa cradles key ingredients like falafel, chicken shawarma, grilled kefta (ground spiced lamb kebab) and spicy merguez sausage made using a treasured family recipe.
The new menu also debuts a lighter Little Gem lettuce salad with creamy dill dressing, feta, red chile oil and toasted panko.
On my last visit at dinner, I enjoyed the well-spiced lamb shawarma served on mini-laffa with lebne (tangy strained yogurt), spicy harissa and nutty tahina. Grilled branzino was fantastic, featuring a crisp-skinned Mediterranean sea bass fillet plated on a bed of cauliflower “cous cous” stained yellow with vadouvan (French curry), more lebne and tart currants.
