Miss Melodee is an award-winning singer/songwriter and teacher. Her album Dancing with Miss Melodee was nominated for an Independent Music Award for Best Children’s Album in 2012 and received a Parent’s Choice Award. A teacher throughout the San Fernando Valley for more than 10 years, Miss Melodee opened her studio in July 2012 and has plans to expand in the coming year. At Miss Melodee Studios, children (ages 18 months and up) and adults learn the fine art of dance. Every child is encouraged to explore and grow at his or her own pace as teachers provide guidance in all levels of ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and musical theatre.
What motivated you to start a kid-focused business?
“I have been working with children my entire adult life. Their ability to imagine and create is constantly surprising to me. I am passionate about the arts and about children having the freedom to explore all they can be in a safe and supportive environment.”
Tell us about your team.
“I have personally hand-picked my team of teachers, working to provide the best loving guidance for all levels of dance. We work to support our students as they take every step on their journey through every discipline.”
How does your business encourage a healthy lifestyle?
“With my Dancing with Miss Melodee entertainment platform of music, DVDs, game apps and books, as well as the studio, we encourage children to be physically active and develop confidence by exploring their imagination through creative movement and dance—so they will be healthier both emotionally and physically. We encourage families to incorporate stretching and creative movement into their weekly routines at home, to grow and play together.”
Do you support charitable organizations that help children?
“We support schools in the area, often providing free gift certificates for school auctions, discounted performances for nonprofit organizations and more. Our focus is to help provide exposure to the fine arts especially in areas where they have been cut out of the schools. We are also working to develop the Find Your Melody Foundation, dedicated to exposing children to dance, healthy physical activity and growth through the creative arts. We hope to provide scholarships for underprivileged children to experience dance and other fine arts activities.”
