Mirabelle Wine Bar offers a three-course, prix fixe dinner on Sunday nights in Valley Village, which is especially ambitious given their limited kitchen.

Mirabelle Wine Bar, a neighborhood favorite for the past year in Valley Village, is giving locals even more to crow about by offering a standout, three-course Sunday dinner for $35. Managing partner Nick Caballero brought in Chef Shane Alvord to advance Mirabelle’s culinary cause, and he’s responded with a menu refresh as well as the Sunday dinner, which changes weekly and features two options per course.
Shane explains his approach to these Sunday dinners, saying, “Just to try something different, have a night that’s a bit more food-focused than during the week and get us out of our comfort zone.”
My Sunday experience was set to a soundtrack of Cars greatest hits like “Touch and Go” and “Drive.” I started with creamy burrata plated with fava beans, leeks, fried shallots and intensely flavored chile garlic oil, served with thick slices of toasted Bread Lounge country loaf brushed with olive oil.
Shane broiled red sea bream—a flaky white fish filet—torching to crisp the skin before serving in a bowl with earthy oyster and matsutake mushrooms, punchy preserved mustard greens, basil and chicken jus. As an accompaniment, manager/sommelier Claire Coppi recommended a glass of 2010 St. Aubin 1er Cru En Créot Janots Bos, a white Burgundy made with 100% chardonnay grapes with a “toasted butter quality” that develops as this bottle ages.
For dessert, creamy buttermilk panna cotta had a PB&J quality thanks to toppings that included sweet-tart elderberry granita, rich dulce de leche and crushed hazelnuts.
Sunday dinner is an especially grand undertaking considering Mirabelle has no kitchen hood, which limits the types of cooking they can do. We’re told that many of the Sunday night dishes simply aren’t possible on a regular basis. Quite frankly, it’s heartening to see Mirabelle take so much care and effort on the Sunday dinner, and it’s piqued my interest for offerings during the week.
