Cocinas y Calaveras, the company from Jesse Gomez and chef/partner Jose Acevedo that runs six Mexican restaurants around LA, including Maradentro in Studio City, rolled out summer specials at Mercado Hollywood in Universal City.
Special seasonal dishes include jicama shrimp tacos with crispy shrimp, Mexican slaw, chile de arbol and aioli on jicama “tortillas.” Summer peach salad pairs the fruit with butter lettuce, burrata, walnuts, candied pepitas, sweet 100 tomatoes, coconut chips, chile-agave croutons and cherry vinaigrette. Breakfast tacos are available at lunch and dinner, with chorizo and eggs, Oaxacan cheese, pico de gallo and avocado on flour tortillas.
Friday and Saturdays only, you'll also find costillas de res, beef back ribs with mustard-guajillo BBQ sauce and potato chips.
Mercado is also serving a special cocktail for summer. The Summer Berry Smash combines Mezcal Los Javis Silver with summer berries, creme de cassis, rosemary and simple syrup.
