Halo Top Creamery Opens First Scoop Shop at Westfield Topanga

Halo Top Creamery, the “low-calorie, high-protein” ice cream brand, has been a breakout hit on grocery store shelves since Justin Woolverton launched it in 2012. Now he has launched his first Halo Top Scoop Shop at Westfield Topanga.

Popular flavors like cinnamon roll, pancakes and waffles, chocolate chip cookie dough, and sea salt caramel are available by the scoop or in a variety of candy-colored cones, sandwiches and sundaes. Customers will also discover some items exclusive to the shop, including soft serve in flavors like vanilla bean, peanut butter cup and pistachio.

Scoop shops weren’t part of Halo Top’s original model, but Justin was excited to connect with customers on a different level. He says, “Halo Top wouldn’t be what it is without our amazing fans, so we are thrilled to provide them a new experience and introduce them to our brand-new, low-calorie soft serve.”

The menu invites customers to “pick your pleasure.” Keep your Halo Top simple in a cup or “go big” with a cookie sandwich or hand-shaped waffle cone “taco” dyed either pink or aqua. Each cone qualifies as “your ride,” and you can choose to roll in a basic cake or sugar cone, a waffle cone in the aforementioned colors or a “puffle” (puffy waffle) dyed either red or black.

A counter is outfitted with several dozen bins of toppings including diced kiwi, shredded coconut, crushed Reese’s peanut butter cups, mochi and caramel sauce.

“We are so excited to open our first brick-and-mortar Halo Top Scoop Shop, and it’s really a dream come true for us,” Justin says. “Our goal with the scoop shop is to let our fans add all the toppings they could possibly want to a soft serve version of Halo Top—which is incredibly delicious and ditches the tanginess of frozen yogurt.” If you own a fro-yo brand, consider those words shots fired; Justin considers you competition.

To find Halo Top Scoop Shop, just look for the large, glowing golden halo that rises above a marble bar in the mall’s second-floor Dining Terrace. A pink neon “Let’s Spoon” sign serves as fun Instagram-bait, and seating is plentiful.

In Beyoncé’s hit song “Halo,” she sang, “Baby, I can see your halo. You know you’re my saving grace.” Justin certainly hopes his scoop shop has the same impact, since he’s already inked leases on branches in Century City and San Diego, with more to come.
