Frida, Vicente del Rio’s modern Mexican restaurant group that’s expanding across L.A. County, has opened doors in a prime ground floor spot at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, directly across from The Cheesecake Factory.
Frida’s menu is expansive—large enough to cause some tough decisions. We’ll make it easier for you. On the taco front, consider Tacos de Rib Eye ($19.95) starring juicy steak that’s diced, piled into house-made corn tortillas and topped with red onion and cilantro. Refried beans, fluffy rice and caramelized peppers and onions round out the plate.
Another compelling entrée: Arrachera Norteña ($26.95), a multifaceted plate that combines charbroiled skirt steak, guacamole, more fluffy rice and refried beans, and one chicken enchilada Tapatia blanketed with chile ancho sauce. Each order comes with flour tortillas.
Camarones al Ajillo ($24.95) involves five large prawns sautéed with dried chile strips, garlic, white wine, butter and lemon juice. A sweet quintet artistically rings a mound of steamed white rice that soaks up residual sauce.
The indoor-outdoor space contains colorful striped booths and banquettes, elaborate cluster of chandeliers and wood bar fronted with black-and-white tiles. Vicente says, “Frida will be a great fit to the community in this area, because our comfort-casual authentic Mexican food combines with our beautiful restaurant’s modern decor.” The Sherman Oaks restaurant spans 8,500 square feet and features an open kitchen, Sunday Mariachi Brunch and eventually some unique dishes created just for this location.
