American Craft Beer Week is a time to toast craft beer culture across the nation—and the celebration is happening through May 18. Check out these four choice spots in the 818 with special brews and events.
Blue Dog Tavern
This Sherman Oaks eatery will celebrate American Craft Beer Week by pulling some rare cases out of the cellar that pair perfectly with one of its gourmet burgers or the best BLT in town.
May 12: Brewery Ommegang, "Game Of Thrones" Fire and Blood Red Ale. Limited supply of this highly sought after bottle in commemoration of, and collaboration with, the HBO series.
May 13: Tuesdays are “Brewsdays” with Abita Brewing and two special kegs—barrel-aged Baltic Porter and Spring IPA.
May 14: Pairing root beer bourbon ribs with Cafe Noir, an Imperial Porter from Tap It Brewing.
May 16: Blue Dog will top off the week and celebrate the weekend with an extremely limited edition bottle of 16th-anniversary Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout from North Coast Brewing.
4524 Saugus Ave., Sherman Oaks, 818-990-2583
Laurel Tavern
This Studio City gastropub is the one that started the beer-plus-food movement in the 818 (plus they also happen to have a stellar menu and grill up the best burgers around). They serve only American craft beers, and there are always 16 on tap.
The newest brews are: Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, 8.7% ABV, brewed by Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido; Mongo Double IPA, 8.5% ABV, brewed by Port Brewing/Lost Abbey in San Marcos; Hop House (pale ale), 6.0% ABV, by Brewery Ommegang New York.
11938 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, 818-506-0777
Tony’s Darts Away
The motto of this bottle-free, low-waste bar and eatery in Burbank is “All Craft, All Draught, All California.” Tony’s is kicking off American Craft Beer Week on May 13 at 6 p.m. with special beers from Drake’s Brewing in San Leandro. Featured are: Brandy Barrel-Aged Drakonic, Rakish Ryewine Ale (aged in rye barrels), Alpha Session IPA and Drake's IPA. There will be someone on hand from Drake’s to chat about the brews. Pair your beer with one of the many sausage offerings on the vegan and non-vegan menus.
1710 W Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, 818-253-1710
Ladyface Ale
This Agoura microbrewery and Belgian/French gastropub makes its own beer in-house and is celebrating all week long.
May 13: Chaparral Saison, a Belgian farmhouse-style ale made with local wildflower honey, will be released.
May 14: Trébuchet Golden Farmhouse, a barrel-aged invention, will be released. It won a 2012 gold medal and a 2013 silver medal in the LA International Commercial Beer Competition.
May 14: Chef Adrian Gioia will prepare a brewmaster's dinner with five courses paired with American craft beer. The cost is $69 per person including gratuity (plus tax, and a small service fee will be applied at checkout). Seating is limited. Available through online purchase only.
May 15: A new cask ale will be presented in honor of American Craft Beer Week.
May 17: It’s the wrap party for beer week. Hang out on the patio, enjoy good eats (try the moules-frites) and listen to singer-songwriters Whitaker and Me from 8 to 11 p.m. while sipping on Ladyface brew.

Food is pretty darn good, too.
