Get into the Halloween spirit with costume contests and food and drink specials—with some truly stand-out brews. Here are five places to get your spook on that stretch across the 818.
Tuning Fork will have live music cranked up to set a spooky mood at 9 p.m. for a costume contest beginning at 10:30 p.m. Up the thrill factor with the newest beer in the HBO and Ommegang collaboration series: Game of Thrones Valar Morghulis available on tap and bottle. 12051 Ventura Place, Studio City
The Local Peasant in Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills will conjure up a few special dishes for Halloween weekend as well as some very limited pumpkin and seasonal brews: Kern River Brewing Company Pumpkin Ale will only be available while it lasts (probably a day) in Sherman Oaks, as the brewery only distributed four kegs in the LA area. Also available in bottles (and one keg) at Sherman Oaks only is Black Market Brewing Superstition Pumpkin Ale. Both locations will offer Absolution Brewing Possessed Pumpkin Porter in limited, allocated kegs and made with Tapia Brothers pumpkins; Dogfish Head Punkin Ale; Shipyard Brewing Barrel Aged Smashed Pumpkin (keg only); The Bruery Autumn Maple in kegs and made with yams; and Epic Brewery Fermentation Without Representation Imperial Pumpkin Porter in kegs only. 14058 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 22901 Ventura Blvd., Woodland Hills
Blue Dog Tavern will be decorated, and the staff will be geared up for a spooky evening with a costume contest beginning at 6 p.m. that will run through the evening. On tap will be Epic Brewery Fermentation Without Representation Imperial Pumpkin Porter and Wolf Creek Brewing Punkin'weizen. Bottles will include: Shipyard Brewing Pumpkinhead Ale, Uinta Brewing Punk'n Harvest Pumpkin Ale and Timmermans Pumpkin Lambicus from Belgium. 4524 Saugus Ave., Sherman Oaks
Loteria Grill is celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos all weekend long with a costume contest. Prizes include dinner for two and tickets to see Wicked at Pantages or a VIP family package for four at The El Capitan. Click here for participation instructions (i.e., hashtags). All costumed patrons will receive $5 off $20 at any location. Go to loteriagrill.com for all locations.
Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village is hosting a Halloween “soiree” at The Bar from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. with a specialty cocktail: pumpkin spice martini made with Fireball whiskey (ask how to Instagram to get it for $5). Dress in costume to receive a 25% discount on food and beverages. There will be a costume contest with prizes, plus live music and surprise swag for guests. Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, 2 Dole Drive, Westlake Village
