Firefly in Studio City opened for Sunday brunch this past weekend—and just in time for a holiday celebration. Some highlights from executive chef Paul Shoemaker's eclectic seasonal menu include: shrimp and creamy polenta with poached farm-fresh egg, applewood smoked bacon and jerk sauce; scrambled eggs with burgundy truffles and Parmesan cheese; Maine lobster Benedict served on ciabatta with poached egg, lobster, American caviar and béarnaise; Honey Boo Boo breakfast burger with sunny-side egg, bacon, cheddar, whipped honey butter and hand-cut Kennebec fries; Texas-style brioche French toast with banana bourbon caramel and whipped cream; and a version of steak and eggs: prime dry-aged New York steak, two eggs, potatoes lyonnaise, asparagus and bordelaise. Prices run $9 to $30 with a selection of starters, salads and main courses.
And what is a meal at Firefly without good drinks? Look for made-to-order pressed juices with fresh fruits and vegetables; Champagne; wine; and quite a decadent build-your-own Bloody Mary bar (above) that includes kosher pickle spears, blue cheese-stuffed green olives, pickled jalapenos, shrimp and spices. Groups of six or more receive a complimentary bottle of prosecco. 11720 Ventura Blvd, 818-762-1833
Holiday catering idea: Loteria Grill has opened its online store for the holiday season, and it is just perfect for entertaining at home. Check out this promotion running December 4 to 7: $5 off your purchase with $48 or more. Freshly made tamales (above) top the choices with five flavors: zucchini and roasted corn succotash; roasted poblano chiles; panela cheese and tomatillo sauce; chicken in mole poblano; pork carnitas in a chile morita sauce; and pineapple. Other selections include soups, chiles rellenos, casserole-style enchiladas and stuffed squash. Click here for the online store.
