While strolling through the Studio City Farmers Market last week, I stumbled upon uniquely flavored nut butter spreads called Buff Bake–the creation of two 20-something cousins named Ashley and Brittany whose combined interests are cooking and fitness.
The business is based in Orange County and started only five months ago, but their products are already carried at a dozen farmers markets, including Studio City and Calabasas.
They carry a line of “buff butters” and “buffins” (aka muffins) online, but only the butters are available at the farmers markets. There are five flavors available in 3.5-ounce squeeze packs or 12-ounce jars: snickerdoodle almond, cookie almond, cinnamon raisin peanut, chocolate chip peanut and cranberry coconut peanut.
Why are they a standout?
Well, they are delicious to start but are also made with “super food” ingredients touted to be good for you: hemp seed, chia seed, natural whey protein powder and flax seed (which provides a grainy texture). The butters are sweetened with organic coconut palm sugar (not a refined sugar, so it has a low glycemic index). And for those who care: The products are gluten-free. Read the list of ingredients here.
