The Glen Centre at the top of Beverly Glen has long been a hot spot not just for swanky eateries and posh shops but also for celeb spotting. Thomas Plejer has been a driving force in the shopping plaza, where he’s opened two businesses in the past year. Bistro Jolie serves Mediterranean fare, and Jayde’s Market just across the parking lot offers a curated selection of grocery store items—and more.
Jayde’s Market, named for the owner’s older daughter, is an airy, multifaceted grocery store, wine shop, deli and café. Fresh-cut flowers, greeting cards, candy and gifts welcome visitors by the entrance.
Aisles tout headers like Nut Butter/Jam, Condiments and Alternative Milk. In back, a butcher shop sells premium organic meat and sustainable seafood. An educational blackboard diagrams the possible cuts available from a chicken, cow, pig and fish.
A deli showcases prepared foods like curry cauliflower salad with dried cranberries, spring vegetable quiche and Jayde’s signature chicken soup chock-full of roasted bird and root vegetables. Surprisingly ambitious salads are made to order, including a salmon chop with romaine, chickpeas, sweet potato, cucumber, tomato, pumpkin seeds and yogurt dressing.
Sandwiches can be bought pre-made or made to order. I enjoyed my freshly constructed turkey panini featuring juicy house-roasted rosemary turkey breast, tarragon aioli, nitrate-free bacon, iceberg lettuce and sliced tomato on pressed Bread Lounge country loaf.
Up front, Jayde’s Market hosts a sun-soaked coffee bar that brews Intelligentsia beans and Kilogram Tea. Until 11:30 a.m. they serve breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos. Anytime they’ll also make smoothies, serve Bakers Kneaded pastries and slice cakes.
As an added bonus, Jayde’s Market also offers indoor-outdoor seating so customers don’t have to grab-and-go.
