As owner of The Kitchen Factory, Dennis McAllister has 26 years of wide-ranging experience with some of the most prominent kitchens in the U.S, Canada and Asia. He has been recognized numerous times for design excellence, and his work has been profiled in national trade journals and local publications. As award-winning designers kitchen designers and consultants, the team at The Kitchen Factory partners with clients on projects from simple countertop replacement to complete home remodels.
What inspired you to enter this profession?
“I started as a young man working in all stages of the restaurant business, from pantry to broiler. I am a certified chef and have had three restaurants in New York and California prior to moving into design. I understand the importance of a well-functioning kitchen. My focus is always `designing with cooking in mind’—creating kitchens with esthetic beauty combined with maximum functionablility.”

“The Kitchen Factory has prided itself on its versatility to remain relevant for 26 years in an ever-changing market, adapting to the current times and creating new and exciting ideas.”
What is the most popular home improvement trend your customers ask for?
“Contemporary, out-of-the-box design trends. Designers are throwing curves into kitchens, breaking up the conventional, straight-and-boxy look in soft new ways. Rounded kitchen sinks, curved faucets, bowed cabinetry and curvaceous islands are changing the shape and feel of contemporary kitchens. The latest trend in home improvement is `hotel chic’—customers like to make their homes look and feel like their favorite hotel destinations.”
Any tips you can give residents looking to start a home improvement project of their own?
“Most important: Hire a design professional to establish an honest budget. Ask questions upfront. We offer free home consultations or you can make an appointment with one of our designers to visit our showroom.”
How do you give back to your community?
“I am active in fundraising programs for the Willie Mays Say Hey Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of America in Palm Desert and in several other charities, including my favorite, the St. Jude Foundation.”
