Before she launched Dayna Katlin Interiors in 2006, owner Dayna Katlin graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising; studied watercolor, pottery and ikebana; and learned about color theory and space planning as part of the UCLA Design Program. The combination of these disciplines provided a strong foundation for starting her own design company, where traditional sensibilities infused with a love of California’s casual comfort instantly became the firm’s hallmark. Dayna Katlin Interiors specializes in interior and exterior design, space planning, color consultation, manufacturing and design of custom furniture and cabinetry, and construction coordination and supervision.

What would you like potential clients to know about you?

“My goal is to bring their dreams and visions to life, so I listen and gather a sense of their preferences, existing lifestyle and dream lifestyle. Ultimately, the space is their sanctuary, and I’m just the interpreter. Also, finances today are important to all my clients, and I am very conscientious of staying within their guidelines and comfort zone. High design is not exclusive to a high price.

What’s most rewarding about your work?

“That I always keep my clients in my life, and we continue to share milestones as our relationship carries through both work and celebrations.”

What inspired you to enter this profession?

“I love color! And textures. Growing up on the east coast with the soft hazy blues and grays of the Atlantic Ocean really inspired me to interpret those hues and textures into a home environment. I find them calming. Add a little soft shimmer, and there’s the foundation of my `look.’”

What is the most popular home improvement trend your customers ask for?

“Spa-like bathrooms. I think we’re all so stressed during the day, that we crave a pampering, serene space. For many clients, it becomes a beautiful way to start and end their day.”

What do you like to do for fun, when you’re not at work?

“I have two teenage children who keep me going, and that is the most fun of all! I love to scour antique stores all over Southern California and, in the summer, Cape Cod.”
