CREAM opened on April 1 to lines around the block, with people spilling past the patio and pastel yellow and blue walls to score ice cream sandwiches. Now, two weeks later, people are still streaming past stanchions to select from an LED menu titled “The Whole Sha Bang.”
What makes these treats worth the wait? CREAM, which originated in the Bay Area, specializes in ice cream sandwiches that are available with a choice of cookies, brownies, Cronut-like do’sants and waffles. Choose from “super premium” ice cream flavors like mint chip, French vanilla, strawberry or green tea. From there, pile on toppings like Fruity Pebbles, rainbow sprinkles or crushed peanuts. Sandwich vessels are baked on-site, and ice cream is crafted at a facility in the Bay Area.
CREAM also serves The Cream Taco: an ice cream sundae in crispy waffle “tortilla.” Ice cream also factors into milkshakes, malts, floats, affogatos and sandwich cookie cakes.
Even though the menu is more or less the same at each CREAM, you will find some distinguishing factors at this branch from franchisees David Zeichick and Mario Ramirez. For instance, at the NoHo outpost, students from Art Institute of California–Hollywood will soon paint a mural in the store, and they plan to hang student art.
