Chaminade College Preparatory is a coeducational Catholic school in the Marianist tradition, serving more than 2,000 students in grades 6–12. The school’s mission is to form morally aware and academically capable people to be outstanding contributors to the future. Founded in 1952 as an all boys high school, the Chaminade relocated to West Hills in 1961. During the 1969-1970 school year, Chaminade opened a campus in Chatsworth, and it began admitting girls to the student body in 1971. Today Chaminade operates a middle school campus in Chatsworth and a high school campus in West Hills. Students are encouraged to explore their individual interests through a wide variety of extra- and co-curricular activities offered by the school.
What would you like kids and parents to know about your school?
“Chaminade College Preparatory offers a unique, seven-year learning experience through a rigorous academic curriculum. We prepare students for success in college and beyond, fostering in them deep moral values and commitment to service that is grounded in the Catholic faith.”
What do kids love most about your school?
“Students love the family spirit and community aspect of Chaminade. Both campuses have been described as ‘a home away from home.’”
What sets your school apart from the rest?
“Chaminade actively integrates technology into the learning environment and continuously seeks new ways to enhance the learning process. Students today are surrounded by technology that profoundly influences the ways that they discover, apply and process information. Chaminade meets this challenge by offering a cutting-edge education with our One-to-One Tablet PC Program. The tablet PC delivers course content in a more relevant and interactive manner, enabling students to take an active role in their learning, rather than passively receiving information transmitted by a teacher lecture or a textbook.”
Tell us about your new performing arts center.
“In February 2012, we opened the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts. Backstage, there is a scene-building workshop, storage rooms, dressing rooms and office space. Drama, dance, band and choral each have their own classrooms. With its permanent home for the performing arts on campus, Chaminade firmly demonstrates the high priority it places on creativity and the indispensable value it brings to our students.”
