Augustine Wine Bar in Sherman Oaks has become one of L.A.’s best places to drink wine with a wide-ranging selection that includes hard-to-find bottles. Now the bar’s wines can come to you with the new Augustine Wine Car, a tricked-out, driveable van that is licensed to pour wine and beer at private events.
Longtime wine pro Dave Gibbs teamed with Sushi Note partner Andy Paxson and Matthew Weaver, a Jiro Dreams of Sushi and Chef’s Table producer who previously invested in Augustine Wine Bar and Sushi Note. The trio transformed a 1960 Ford Grumman-Olson Kurbside Van into a 10-foot-by-20-foot mobile wine bar. Cheese and charcuterie plates and other light bites are also available.
Event coordinators and party throwers can choose which bottles Augustine serves, choosing among pretty much any variety that’s available at the brick-and-mortar location, plus bottles they can source elsewhere.
According to Andy, “Similar to Augustine Wine Bar, we’ll offer all the classic varietals (e.g., pinot, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, etc.) from producers we love, as well as some that may be more esoteric (e.g., carricante, a white grape from Mount Etna, or bogdanuša, from the island of Hvar off the Croatian coast, etc.), as well as select vintage wines. The wine offerings will be curated to the taste of the customer.”
