Blue Bottle Coffee, which hails from the Bay area, opened earlier this month at the slowly blooming Valley Country Mart in Woodland Hills. Rose Bridges, Blue Bottle Coffee’s marketing manager, shared insights into the company’s plans for the area: “We saw an opportunity for a stronger specialty coffee presence in the San Fernando Valley,” she says. “We love that the [Woodland Hills] location allows us to be a respite for pedestrians ambling through the surrounding plaza, as well as a pit stop for people who might want to grab a cold brew before heading to the beach.”
To start, they focused on Valley Country Mart, an expansive, attractive U-shaped strip mall. Still two-thirds vacant, it has the potential to become a West Valley hub. Other tenants include Lodge Bread Co. and Valerie Confections, plus some high-end boutique shops. “We were inspired to join the other prominent and successful artisans and retailers in this lovely shopping center and let the community experience our delicious coffee,” Rose says.
Beverages include a bevy of espresso drinks, single-origin drip coffee, and cold brew both plain or New Orleans-style with roasted chicory, cane sugar and milk. Coffee-phobes can order tea, hot chocolate and lemonade. Light bites include avocado toast and Liege-style Belgian waffles, plus Sugarbloom Bakery pastries.
“Our cafe design takes cues from the architecture of classic Hollywood diners,” Rose says. The airy space features a peaked roof with a skylight, grey cushioned banquettes with small rounds, and a wood-panel menu.
The company also has plans for a Studio City outpost in a small space adjacent and to the back of to the new Mendocino Farms in Studio City. Look for that in late spring/early summer.
