Just east of the NoHo Arts District, The Bar-B-Que Bar has been transformed into Muddle & Twist. New owners have revamped the menu and added a serious cocktail program
Regulars will be thrilled to know that the Kansas City-style barbecue—with meats like pork, brisket and pulled chicken all buffeted with hickory smoke and priced by weight—is still served. Ditto for crowd-pleasers BBQ quesadilla, hillbilly nachos, BBQ fries and Buffalo wings.
New to the menu: salads, sandwiches and burgers, including a particularly meaty brisket burger piled with cheddar cheese, onion straws and BBQ sauce. My panini starring thin-sliced brisket, coleslaw and BBQ sauce on pressed ciabatta was pretty tasty with a side of French fries.
As the new name implies, cocktails now feature prominently. Most cocktails incorporate muddled fruits and come served with a twist. Classics include Manhattans, margaritas and mojitos. Lesser-known cocktails include an Adam & Eve with rum, muddled pineapples and Champagne. For people who enjoy different drinks, the restaurant now has a total of 18 beer taps between the two bars, with some craft.
The revamped space includes a plant-lined patio, weathered wood-panel and grey walls, Edison bulbs and twin bars with flat-screen TVs. Near the entrance, a 3-D sign reads YUM, which is certainly owner Adam Ovakimyan’s goal.
