Pubbing…Like the Brits

If popular rapper Jay Wayne Jenkins can call himself Young Jeezy, then surely Geezer’s Public House can go by Young Geezy. Despite leading with the term “geezer,” the new new gastropub in Woodland Hills definitely leans young. (The name is the British equivalent to “dude,” by the way—which explains its use here.)

Hospitality Unlimited—a restaurant group also behind The Nickel Mine in West L.A., The Woodman in Sherman Oaks and the recently closed Cocina Condesa in Studio City—also runs this eatery. Geezer’s features a street-side patio, high-top tables, huge bar, and games like Uno and Yahtzee to play between bites and sips. More than a dozen flat-screen TVs make it easy for visitors to watch sports.

A comfort food menu steers clear of most played-out gastropub trappings. For instance, seven-flavor fried chicken ($14) touts four pieces of bone-in, Mary’s free-range dark meat seasoned with shichimi togarashi and served with floral lavender honey. El Cubano Caribeño ($13) is their take on Cuba’s signature sandwich combining slow-roasted pork shoulder, honey ham, baby Swiss cheese, shaved pickle and Dijonnaise. Each Cubano comes with plantain chips. Their grilled organic artichoke ($12) also strays from standard pub fare, served with dippable clarified butter and house-made garlic aioli.

General manager Travis Eichensehr explained their decision to expand to Warner Plaza, saying, “With the incredible success of The Village and the huge surge in office and residential construction, now was the perfect time to open up Geezer’s Public House and give people a very unique and fun gastropub option.”

For libations, Geezer’s offers seasonal cocktails, a mix of craft and mass-market beers and a small but focused wine selection.
