Gina Shields and husband Damien recently replaced Café Fiore with Tuccio’s at the base of brick centric Warner Center Towers in Woodland Hills. They named the Italian restaurant for her grandfather, Raymond Tuccio, and hired executive chef Gavin Humes, previously with Cliff’s Edge in Silver Lake, who’s handcrafting everything from pasta to ricotta and bread.
The space features a green awning, dining room with wall-to-wall wood, three rows of booths framed with reclaimed beams and glass-fronted kitchen. A bar area touts high-top wood tables and counter, red stools and flat-screen TVs for viewing sports.
Lunch brings sandwiches starring key ingredients like celeriac schnitzel, roast chicken and porchetta. Pizzas are “charred to perfection” and include Margherita, house-made pork sausage, and more elaborate combos like three cheese with house-made ricotta, mozzarella and truffled sottocenere; wild mushroom with thyme crema, fontina and frisee; and roasted garlic vinaigrette.
The menu features six types of house-made pasta at dinner, four at lunch. Depending on the season you might find fall-like agnolotti with brown butter, sage, hazelnuts, pomegranate and apple; or perhaps spaghetti alla chitarra with Santa Barbara uni and prosciutto breadcrumbs.
Dinner brings hearty secondi, protein-focused plates like roasted fish with summer squash, fennel pollen emulsion and Brussel sprouts; pan-seared salmon with fingerling potatoes, cherry tomato, thyme and basil; and grilled bistecca with farro, slow-roasted carrots and red wine reduction.
No matter what you order, be sure to ask for a complimentary plate of warm, house-baked thyme focaccia and soft butter to nosh on while you wait for plates to arrive.
