Paulius “Paul” Zemaitis and business partner Virginijus Vytartas have taken to malls to serve Enjoyer premium ice cream popsicles. They started at Glendale Galleria and recently expanded to The Village at Topanga in Canoga Park, stationing their yellow cart between EMC Seafood & Raw Bar and Le Pain Quotidien in the very middle of the mall.
Paul and Virginijus first started experimenting with recipes in their native Lithuania before turning to gelato experts in Italy. “They really helped us with recipes and best production practices,” Paul says. “Afterwards we found a different taste of milk, water and fruits in Los Angeles.” They adjusted their approach to the local LA market and now pride themselves on making bars that taste like you’re eating real fruit.
Paul and his partner were watching the film The Intouchables when a dance scene inspired their business name. Paul recounts, “He inspires moments of joy to everybody around them. He is breaking the rules in a good way (not to get attention and bring arrogance but to bring real happiness). So this is what Enjoyer is about.”
Enjoyer serves three categories of bars: gelato bars with organic fruits and dairy, dairy-free fruit bars and non-dairy bars that incorporate almond, cashew and coconut milk. Popsicles top out at 180 calories and come in flavors like pistachio, Nutella, strawberry mint, passion fruit and strawberry yogurt with granola on top. Paul is particularly enamored with the blueberry coconut chia bar made with coconut milk, fresh blueberries, chia seeds and a drop of guar gum that helps keep the texture soft.
Enjoyer also donates many bars to charity and recently teamed with Rosie’s Foundation to convert a school bus into an ice cream truck that sells their bars to customers, benefiting people with disabilities by generating jobs and funds for the charity.
