Phillip Frankland Lee and wife Margarita took plant-based cooking to new heights at The Gadarene Swine in Studio City, but they had to close their restaurant on July 2. The Lees earned raves for their ambitious tasting menu and à la carte options from critics like Jonathan Gold of The Los Angeles Times, who included the restaurant in his 101 Best Restaurant Lists, and Eater LA’s 38 Essential Los Angeles Restaurants list.
In his farewell message to customers, Phillip says, “We are incredibly grateful to all of the patrons who have embraced our plant-based restaurant and have supported us since we opened in September 2014.”
Fans of the duo’s cooking in the San Fernando Valley need not despair. The couple still runs Scratch|Bar & Kitchen in Encino Commons and are opening Oh Man! Ramen this summer with fellow chef Luke Reyes.
No word has surfaced yet on which restaurant will replace The Gadarene Swine.
