Fishbone Seafood Doubles Down in Studio City

No, Fishbone Seafood has nothing to do with Fishbone, the LA-born ska/funk/rock band that’s been going strong for more than three decades. Instead, it’s a fish market and café from Eric Williams that debuted in a Tarzana strip mall in January 2016 and is already expanding to Studio City, with the name Fish Trap. Eric is a longtime Valley resident who saw the need for approachable fish markets in the area, and his instinct is proving to be correct.
Longtime friends William Conley and Morris Botiz will run the Studio City outpost, which replaces a party store called Balloons on the Run. The vibe will be nearly identical to the original, with corrugated metal and reclaimed wood elements and stylish Fishbone branding. The only difference will be the size—300-square-feet larger—and the configuration of the wood, which will be horizontal instead of vertical along the walls.
Studio City will also be fast-casual. Order at the counter from a refrigerated display case that holds more than a dozen types of seafood, which are all available either grilled or fried. Options include red snapper, sand dabs, trout and fish. Lunch plates come with one side, and dinner plates allow for two sides. Potential sides include cole slaw, hushpuppies, collard greens or red beans and rice.
