Chef Sandra Cordero and husband John Hensley alternate between “Paella Nights” and “Twelve Tapas Tastings” on the third Friday and Saturday of each month at Gasolina Cafe in Woodland Hills, accompanied by live flamenco guitar.
Sandra is half Dutch, half Spanish and grew up in Amsterdam and the rural villages of Galicia, Spain. Gasolina Cafe provides a forum for her childhood flavors, and these nights allow deeper dives into Spanish cuisine, beyond their normal breakfast and lunch dishes. John says, “It gives her the opportunity to have some fun with the tasting menu, creating new variations on classics—like the asparagus flan, cherry and beet gazpacho.”
Twelve Tapas Tastings cost $47 per person and include dishes like asparagus flan with crispy jamon, Pilar’s meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce and Spanish garlic shrimp. Paella Nights cost $42 per person. Expect combos like black seafood paella with squid ink, cuttlefish, shrimp and piquillo peppers; and paella de carne with beef short ribs, morcilla, chorizo and chicken. There's always a vegetarian paella option.
Gasolina Cafe featured tapas in June, so July 15–16 will involve paella. Seatings are available at either 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. Email info@gasolinacafe.com or call 818-914-4033 to reserve tables.
