Judging from your overwhelming response to last week’s Sauce item on Sweet Rose Creamery coming soon to Studio City, The Sauce thought we should feed all you Scoopheads more ice cream news in a hurry, maybe on a waffle cone (but then we'd have to call you Coneheads).
So while you’re waiting for Sweet Rose to open, try Tarzana’s new Wanderlust Creamery. The shop, which held its grand opening on August 30, seeks to make a dent in the increasingly crowded artisanal ice cream market with globally-inspired flavors designed by Adrienne Nicole Borlongan, granddaughter of a flavor chemist from Magnolia Ice Creams and also a cocktail mixologist.
On a recent visit, it seemed appropriate to be standing behind a couple sporting bohemian patterns and carrying yoga mats to sample bright orange Vietnamese coffee, strawberry balsamic mascarpone, honey lavender and sticky rice/mango ice creams. Even the waffle cones show a spirit of adventure, available in green tea, brown butter, vanilla, chocolate and ube (purple yam, a popular flavor in the Philippines).
One suggestion: The flavors are so unusual and the servers so obliging, one might find a bottleneck of eager tasters who must try it all before ordering. Perhaps management should create a taste cap and encourage patrons not to go around the world on a first visit, because it really can seem to take 80 days.
