Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah! Did you buy your latke (potato pancake) ingredients yet? If not, or if you're not in the mood to deal with mess, have a ton to make or just need them in a pinch, I found the best frozen variety to solve the problem: LA-based Linda’s Gourmet Latkes. Instead of tasting like lumps of fried mashed potatoes, Linda’s are crispy and crunchy as a result of being flash-frozen. Plus they are super-easy to make. Just four to seven minutes in the oven is all it takes.
They come in four sizes: bite-size (48 per pack); large (24 per pack); extra large (14 per pack); extra, extra large (six per pack). There is a “latke calculator”on the website to figure out your serving amount needs. Flavors include original, sweet potato, green onion, Southwest, artichoke, zucchini and curry. There’s even gluten-free, vegan and heart-shape. To give the latkes a "gourmet twist," check out the bottled toppings that include various types of caviar and crème fraîche
. Applesauce and sour cream are available for purchase too.Order online for shipping (great gift idea!), find them at your local Gelson's or Whole Foods or, really, the best bet at this late date is to pre-order for pickup at a location in Van Nuys (Monday to Friday only)—and you'll save 20%.
Check out the website for other products such as knishes, veggie patties and gingerbread houses (including one for Hanukkah!) For more info go to: Linda's Gourmet Latkes.
