If you find yourself hungrily wandering around the east Valley or in need of a caffeine pick-me-up, consider dropping into SteamPunk Coffee Bar and Kitchen in Valley Village. It’s a hipster-looking joint with funky furniture and art-covered walls off the beaten path on Burbank Boulevard, just west of Whitsett. Think Los Feliz and Silverlake vibe in the 818.
Open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, it’s a fast, casual place serving up fun breakfast dishes, with a variation of eggs, waffles and Mexican eats, as well as salads, wraps and sandwiches. They stock limited Röckenwagner baked good usually only available on the Westside.
The unique specialty coffee and tea menu includes matcha green tea, sweet tea, Mexican mocha, dirty Chai (with a shot of espresso), Mexican Coke and sugar-infused espresso shots.
Tip: It’s often crowded on weekends, but owners Amy and Mario make sure the service is friendly and accommodating, plus they hustle as fast as they can for a small place —so be patient.
Six to Eat and Drink: Breakfast All Day
The Stack: The house specialty: buttermilk fried chicken, bacon, an egg sunny-side-up and Belgian waffles drizzled with cayenne maple aioli
Breakfast Burrito: Stuffed with eggs, bacon, sausage, pepper jack cheese, onions, red peppers, potatoes and avocado
Egg in The Hole: Buttered sourdough with a fried egg in the middle, served with bacon and crispy breakfast potatoes
Garden Scramble: Three eggs scrambled with kale, mushrooms, onions, red peppers and goat cheese with crispy potatoes
Chilaquiles: Tortilla chips tossed in house salsa, with egg, bacon, sausage, red peppers, onions and avocado (Note: If you want it spicier, ask for the Hot Mama Teresa homemade salsa.)
Mexican Mocha: Chocolate caffeniated goodness
Order at the counter and take a seat.
