So what if you don’t have your midnight kiss lined up yet? What’s really important is where you’ll be feasting and imbibing when the clock strikes midnight this New Year’s Eve. From upscale dining with diver scallops laced in Italian black truffles to DJs and dancing in the arts district, here are our picks for where you should be when the ball drops.
GIRASOL
Are you the type of person that loves sunchoke veloute infused with hedgehog mushrooms roasted in cedar bark? Are you the type of person that even knows what that is? If so, you’ll find no better dinner in the neighborhood than at Studio City’s Girasol, where Chef CJ Jacobs has crafted a five-course prix fixe meal built on seasonal ingredients foraged from our local Angeles National Forest. With a 7-9 pm seating and a 9-11 pm seating that comes with a glass of bubbly, this is how to ring in the new year in style.
Call for reservations. Girasol, 11334 Moorpark St., Studio City. (818) 924-2323.
THE FEDERAL BAR
If you’re looking for the sort of night that involves dancing with a side of filet mignon, you’ll want to snag a ticket for The Federal Bar’s New Year’s Eve event. A $60 ticket gets you a four-course prix fixe menu including pork belly garnished with mustard, alongside beer, wine and entrance to the upstairs club. Spring for a $90 package and you’ll have access to a premium open bar and VIP room with hor d’oeuvres and dancing. More information, here.
The Federal Bar, 5303 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood. (818) 980-2555.
RAPHAEL
There’s something to be said for finishing off the year with the likes of braised oxtail dressed with green papaya, and salmon served with truffled lentils and braised leeks. Studio City’s Raphael gives you the option to finish the year with a four-course meal and wine pairings, featuring dishes such as warm oysters bathed in anise cream sauce and touched with caviar. Classy. Full menu, here.
